What should I expect when I or a family member enters services?
For Outpatient Services: You will receive an initial assessment, verification of your insurance and copay obligation, orientation to Tri-County services, and an individualized treatment plan developed specifically for you or your family member as well as a discharge plan. You will be assigned a primary counselor who will be with you during individualized and group sessions.
For Residential Services: You will have a clinical and medical assessment, verification of your insurance and copayment, orientation to the program, urine drug screen. You will be assigned a primary counselor who, with your input, will develop an individualized treatment and discharge plan for your stay. If you are taking medications, you are asked to bring at least a thirty (30) day supply with you at the time of admission.

How does Tri-County serve different populations within the community?
Our professional staff understand that the diverse groups of people we serve come with their own special needs and considerations. Tri-County structures our programs to ensure individuals receive age-appropriate treatment related to individual therapy, group therapy, and psychiatric services.
Does Tri-County Human Services offer mental health counseling or psychiatric services?
Yes, Tri-County offers primary mental health and psychiatric services at our Highlands Outpatient Facility in Avon Park, FL. Additionally, mental health services are provided at our Lakeland Outpatient facility and the Meadowbrook Psychiatric and Counseling Centre.
What if I am deaf, hard of hearing or need special assistance?

What is an assessment?
An assessment is the first step towards improving your overall well-being. A comprehensive assessment is a biopsychosocial-spiritual-cultural assessment and is used to collect needed information about your unique circumstances to determine the best treatment options available to you.
What is the detoxification environment like for patients?
Tri-County is proud of this facility and we strive each and every day to provide a safe and comfortable environment for those patients who are in the detox program. There is medical staff at the facility 24/7 as well as technical staff to assist in any way possible. Smoking is allowed at scheduled times. There are activities to participate in as well as therapeutic groups.
How does someone access the Tri-County programs?
There is “no wrong door” when it comes to accessing services in Tri-County. You can call any Tri-County facility, discuss your needs with staff and they will assist you in gaining access into the program best suited for you.
How do I request my clinical/medical records? Is there a fee?
The initial step is to make a request for records in writing to the program in which you or your child is enrolled. If you are requesting that your records be transferred to another provider, you will need to complete a consent to release information form. Any Tri-County program has these forms and are available at your request. Make sure you have the proper agency name, address and fax number so that we can process your request timely and accurately.
There is a $25 fee for processing your records request.
What happens when I or a family member is discharged from treatment?
Discharge planning starts at the time you are admitted into a Tri-County program. With your help the treatment team will establish goals that will help you transition back into the community. You will be given resources so that you can contact others within the community that will assist you in housing, job seeking, transportation and other vital pieces of information to benefit you upon discharge.
Does Tri-County accept insurance?
Yes, Tri-County accepts most health insurance plans, including Medicaid HMO’s. Currently, Tri-County does not accept Medicare insurance plans. Please call Tri-County to see if we accept your insurance.
What if I am unable to afford treatment?
Each person requesting services is assessed on their ability to pay and their eligibility for funding programs to include a sliding fee schedule.
DUI Department FAQs
What services does the DUI Department provide?
All our services are related to a person’s driver’s license.
- We offer the Drug Alcohol Traffic Education (DATE) course to help a person obtain a new Driver’s License.
- We offer online Driver Improvement classes for persons with tickets, crashes, or other minor traffic violations.
- We offer the Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Program to help a person get a hardship license or have their license reinstated due to a DUI arrest, any related charge, or arrests for drug possession.
- We offer Special Supervision Services (SSS) to help a person with a five (5) year, ten (10) year or lifetime driver license revocation obtain a hardship license.
- We offer the Ignition Interlock Device (IID) Program to help monitor a person who has the Ignition Interlock Device installed in their vehicle that has received one or more Violation Letters from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV).
What is the cost for registration?
- Level 1 DUI $267.50 – This is for a first and only DUI, or related charge, or if the person never completed a Level 1 DUI class.
- Level 2 DUI $412.50 – This is for two (2) or more DUI’s or related charges, or if the person previously completed the Level 1 DUI class.
- The above fees are changed by DHSMV every year on October 1st.
- Other ancillary fees may apply.
How long does it take to register for the DUI program?
2-3 hours to complete all required forms.

What does a person need to bring to register for DUI?
- A complete DUI arrest report from the law enforcement agency.
- A lifetime driving history (from all states where the person lived)
- A court order if they have been to court.
- Photo ID
- A money order or credit/debit card. No cash!
- Proof of Residency in Polk, Hardee or Highlands County.
